Boost your irregular verbs in English
About course
To study irregular verbs (Irregular Verbs), we suggest using two methods in this course: the distributed repetition method and the booyya method, which we have developed for you.
Spaced Repetition Method is a method that allows memorizing information without jaggedness. It is based on the theory of Hermann Ebbinghaus. The scientist studied human memory and derived the forgetting curve. His research helped to see how often the material needs to be repeated so that it is fixed in the memory.

We also offer you our own method of learning verbs. We offer you to divide the study of irregular verbs into 4 weeks. We divided the verbs into different groups - next to each group it is indicated what exactly unites the verbs in it. Thus, every week we will study 25 verbs and after 4 weeks we will remember all 100 of the most common irregular verbs!
For your convenience, after each week there is a practice exercise, as well as already created cards, with which you can easily practice the learned forms! Also, we have divided all the verbs for the week into slightly smaller groups so that you can learn as many words as you can at one time.
A four-week program awaits you, in which these verbs are already divided into groups. All you have to do is follow the instructions and repeat different groups of verbs at different times, according to the schedule.

If you're still scared of irregular verbs in the English language, it's time to memorize them once and for all. Yes, it's not easy to do, as there are quite a few of them. However, the authors of the Booyya courses are ready to share with you the secrets of memorization that will help you with this difficult task.
What are the peculiarities of irregular verbs in the English language?
Most English verbs belong to the category of regular verbs, as you only need to add the ending -ed to the stem to form the past tense. However, there are words that don’t follow this rule, which is why they are called irregular. The familiar word “to be” is also such a verb, and in the past tense it changes to "was" or "were" depending on the person. And if you need to use it as a past participle, then use "been".
So where did these strange and completely illogical forms come from? They come from the ancient English language and have retained their form despite the active course of history, the development of the language, and attempts to adapt them to the general rule of past tense formation. Probably, ancient people had their own logic, from which irregular verbs in the English language were born, and we can only accept it.
With those verbs, it's not all bad
English has several hundred verbs whose past tense forms are formed without any logic. However, when you start learning all these words by heart, you will sometimes come across some exceptions and clues. See the table below for some examples of formation:
The general rule for the formation of the past tense |
Examples |
Words containing -take change in the same way as the word "take" itself |
take – took – taken mistake – mistook – mistaken undertake – undertook – undertaken |
Some irregular verbs ending in -d in both past tense forms change this last letter to -t |
bend – bent – bent build – built – built lend – lent – lent |
Some words don't change their form in the past tense, but you don't need to add the ending -ed to them – usually short three-letter words |
let – let – let put – put – put set – set – set |
By dividing all irregular verbs into certain categories, you'll find it easier to memorize them. But so that you don't have to do this rather complicated task yourself, the authors of Booyya courses have already done it for you. We'll tell you more about the course below.
How many of these verbs there are in English and how many of them you need to know
Another good news is that for everyday use, you should memorize the basic and most common 50 or 100 of these verbs. You only need to know the three forms of 600+ words if you plan to read classic English literature in the original.
